A Study on Self-Esteem and Physical Aging of the Aged

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study was to examine the backgrounds of the Aged and to identify self-esteem and physical aging
The subjects, consisting to 77 the Aged who lived at home and institutionalized at nursing home in Seoul.
Questionaire survey was conducted from August 6 to August 10, 1990.
The measurement tools were Rosenberg´s Self steem and physical aging measuring instrument which made allowance for the Cornell Medical Index.
Analysis of Data was done by using Ferquency, Mean, S.D., AVOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient.
The results of study were as follows:
1. In regard to relationship between general characteristics and self-esteem, the result showed no significant difference.
2. In regard to relationship between general characteristics and physical aging, the result showed significant difference in sex, age and resident place. The subjects who showed the higher degree of physical aging were female group, older group and institutionalized at nursing home.
3. There was negative significant correlation between self-esteem and physical aging.
